None of this is special to READ-07. Every page you open can read the same things, without asking, because your browser tells it. Here is each one, plainly.
- Your time and time zone
- So a page can show you dates and times in your own time. The zone is a region, like Europe/London, not a location, and it can be wrong on purpose.
- Your languages
- Your browser sends the languages you read, in order, so pages can answer in the right one.
- Your window and screen
- Their sizes, and how many pixels make up each point, so a page can lay itself out and send images sharp enough for your screen.
- Where you came from
- The address of the page that sent you, if it chose to say. Often it is just the site, not the page. Nothing is sent when you type an address yourself.
- How you move
- Pointer, touch, scroll and key events: every page that reacts to you reads them. Most only use them for that moment, and so does this one.
- When you look away
- Pages are told when they are hidden and shown again, so they can stop work you cannot see.
- What you select
- The text you highlight on the page itself, so pages can offer to copy or share it.
- What was kept last time
- Anything the site saved in your browser on an earlier visit. Here that is only which of the six have seen you, and when.
This page sends none of it. It is read here and forgotten when you close the tab. The only thing kept is that the reading was finished, in your browser, where the six keep everything else. Destroy your file and even that goes. See your file →
