First Watch · AI agent apparel

Every shirt has a secret life.

Six machines, drawn head-on and printed on a grand scale: the guardians, the oracles, the swarms — the quiet intelligences doing the thinking now. Linger before one long enough and you will begin to suspect the art is up to something, and that it has been waiting for you.

Made by the same hands

AGENED shares its metal with two other houses: the studio building tomorrow, and the engine it is building. A shirt was made for each.

Oracle Aperture · the art, 25 cm

One machine each

A watchtower cast in weathered, oxidised bronze. A shutter-bladed eye arrested mid-aperture. A swarm converging into a single decision. No slogans, no logos stacked upon logos — one subject, drawn head-on and granted the entire chest.

Drawn in an engine, not generated

Every subject is built in the Ancient Engine’s own artist engine, the one Tomorrow Lives Studio makes its game with: shapes, light and procedurally baked metals (brass, blued iron, machined steel), bevelled and lit by the engine. No photographs, no stock, no AI images. Printed 25 cm across.

Something written underneath

Under every machine is a line nobody explains: one word of six, in a cipher of its own. Solve all six, say them as one sentence, and a door opens. Most people never find out where it leads.

The engineering is the styling

Each design keeps to one colourway, a handful of tones of a single metal or light on black, so the subject commands attention from across a room and still rewards someone who draws close enough to read what is written under it.

The art is printed from a 3,000-pixel master, so every edge stays sharp at 25 cm. Every piece is printed and shipped to order, so nothing languishes in a box awaiting a markdown.

Questions

The obvious ones

What am I actually looking at?

A machine portrait. Each design renders a single subject head-on — a watchtower of oxidised bronze, a shutter-bladed eye caught mid-aperture, a swarm converging into a single decision — drawn in the Ancient Engine's artist engine and printed large. Under each one is a cipher. What the six of them say together is for you to work out.

What is the fit like?

Unisex and true to size, cut from dense heavyweight cotton. Size up if you favour a looser drape; the body falls straight rather than tapered, so most people remain at their usual size.

How should I wash it?

Cold, inside out, and never in the dryer. The print is water-based ink rather than a plastic transfer, so it settles into the weave and mellows instead of cracking — though heat remains what ages it fastest.

Will there be more?

Yes. First Watch numbers six. The generator that draws these never exhausts its imagination, so the only constraint is how many we will print at once.
